These sketches were done on-site during our group visits to the galleries. At the time, I wasn’t very happy with them, but I think in retrospect these drawings would go on to influence the more abstract and architectural style that I developed over the course of the module. I don’t like to pride myself on documentary drawings, though I recognise the importance of practice through the use of reference images and creating observational sketches from life.
I chose to depict the less obvious – things that definitely go overlooked - and are designed to, as indeed the main focus of an exhibition is not the uneven concrete floor, or the ceiling-mounted lights, or the short walk between the two locations, and yet these things were just as much a part of the visits as the display pieces themselves.
